The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division is proposing a change to walleye fishing regulations at Lake Blue Ridge in Fannin County.  This change would adjust the current walleye creel and possession limit from fifteen (15) to eight (8) fish.

Here is hoping that angler Kristen Brown is twice as excited over her catch of June 1, 2016. She holds the new state record shadow bass and it is the first time that shadow bass are recognized as eligible for state record status, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.

The Flat Creek Public Fishing Area, Marben Farms Public Fishing Area (Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center) and Red Top Mountain State Park have been recognized among the 2016 Top 100 Family Friendly Places to Boat and Fish in the U.S., according to Take Me Fishing™ , whose Top 100 list was released leading up to National Fishing and Boating Week.

The Canada goose is an adaptable bird that can live in a variety of habitats, with many of those locations in close proximity to people, such as open farmland, rural reservoirs, suburban neighborhood ponds, office complexes, parks and other developed areas. This ability to thrive sometimes leads to summertime frustration for landowners or land managers who may discover large areas of goose feathers and feces.

Waterfowl hunters in Georgia can do something in June that they formerly were not able to - make season hunting plans. Thanks to a new earlier approval process by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, migratory bird season hunting dates and regulations were approved for the 2016-17 season by the Board of Natural Resources.

Garbage is irresistible to a hungry black bear. The presence of available garbage encourages bears to change their normal movement patterns and “hang out” in non-traditional range areas. What can you do? One of the first, and most important, things to do is to stash your trash to resolve potential human-bear conflicts.
